RM Pagi Sore restaurant, PIK branch in North Jakarta, came under fire from Malaysian netizens. The reason: the restaurant accused a group of tourists of dining without paying Rp907,500, even though the payment had already been made.

A group of 6 Malaysian tourists was accused of “dining and dashing” after eating at RM Pagi Sore PIK on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The accusation went viral after the travel agency’s driver contacted the customers on Saturday (16/5) asking for proof of payment. In fact, the transaction had been made by card on the same day.

The customers were Norain Yunus and her five companions, tourists from Malaysia. The accusation came from RM Pagi Sore PIK branch. The incident was first revealed by Norain via her Threads account @norainyunus and immediately sparked anger among Malaysian netizens.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, at RM Pagi Sore PIK branch, North Jakarta. The accusation was only conveyed to the customers three days later, on 16 May 2026. The restaurant’s clarification was only issued after the proof of payment was uploaded.

In this case, the restaurant called it “pure miscommunication.” In an apology video sent to the travel agency, management said there was no intentional wrongdoing. But the explanation came too late, after the customers’ names had already gone viral and they were labeled as scammers.

Norain said she was shocked and immediately searched for the receipt still kept in her bag. After the proof was sent, the restaurant apologized. But Malaysian netizens were already furious. The travel agency account @tripadukberadik even called for a boycott:

“For the sake of Malaysia’s dignity, we from Tripadikberadik will boycott Pagi Sore restaurant. We will support other eateries in Indonesia that are more delicious.”

The boycott call quickly spread on Malaysian social media. RM Pagi Sore, which has long been known as a “must-visit” restaurant for Malaysian tourists in Jakarta, became the target of criticism.

How should this have been handled?
An economic observer criticized the restaurant’s careless system. “Card transactions should be verified immediately before accusations are thrown at customers. Foreign tourists should not become victims of internal negligence,” he said.

This incident is a blow to RM Pagi Sore’s service image, especially among Malaysian tourists who have long been loyal customers. An apology has been made, but trust that has already been cracked requires more than just a clarification.
