Many Indonesians go abroad as migrant workers just to get by. But Dwi Tantri proved that working overseas can be a launchpad to transform your life.
It all started 12 years ago. Tantri made the bold move to Taiwan and worked as an elderly caregiver. Not for a short stint. She stayed with the same employer for 12 years. Her secret was not luck, but hard work, initiative, and total responsibility on the job.
More Than Work, She Built Impact
While in Taiwan, Tantri did not spend her free time just resting. She actively helped fellow Indonesian migrant workers in trouble. From handling cases, founding a community, to teaching skills that gave other workers a lifeline abroad.
Tantri also taught herself Mandarin. That skill made her a go-to person. Many struggling migrant workers came to her for help, and Tantri always stepped up.
Home With Change in Hand
Now back in Indonesia, Tantri’s life has turned 180 degrees. The former migrant worker is now trusted as the director of an LPK, a job training center. She passes on what she learned in Taiwan to prepare future migrant workers to be safer and more skilled.
She did not stop there. Tantri is also active in village programs and supports her husband, who serves as the village head. From caring for the elderly overseas, she now helps care for her hometown’s progress.
Dwi Tantri’s story is proof: working abroad is not just about sending money home. With determination, courage, and care for others, migration can be the start of building a bigger future. Not just for yourself, but for many people.
